Some general sources for planning and assessing project-based learning:

The Buck Institute of Education (BIE) offers “FreeBIEs” to promote project based learning. The rubrics tab offers a variety of grading scales at various grade levels on presenting, creative thinking, collaboration, etc.

Ten tips from Edutopia for assessing project-based learning (requires free registration). The PDF includes several links to sites with information about assessment.

Keep in mind that effective assessment involves formative as well as summative evaluation. Edutopia has an interesting piece on using today’s technology for quick formative assessment.
